BMW Australia has announced the iX2 electric ‘coupe SUV’ will available locally with two trim levels, mirroring what will soon be available on the related iX1 electric SUV.
Deliveries of the BMW iX2 xDrive30 are set to commence in Australia in the first quarter of 2024 and is priced from $85,700 before on-roads. This is $800 more expensive than the iX1 xDrive30.
The iX2 xDrive30 will be followed by the entry-level iX2 eDrive20 which will arrive locally in mid-2024 and is priced from $82,900 before on-roads. This is $4000 more than the iX1 eDrive20.
This announcement of local BMW iX2 pricing follows a few weeks after the German carmaker revealed the new-generation X2, which is due to launch locally in the first quarter of 2024.
iX2 xDrive30
For now BMW Australia hasn’t detailed standard equipment for the iX2 eDrive20, however specifications for the iX2 xDrive30 mirror what’s offered in the iX1 xDrive30.
These two forthcoming BMW iX2 vehicles will join the iX1 eDrive20, iX1 xDrive30, i4 eDrive35 and iX3 M Sport in the brand’s line-up of electric vehicles (EVs) that fall under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles, and are also exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) for fleet operators.
When the iX2 eDrive20 and iX2 xDrive30 arrive next year, BMW Australia will have a total 15 all-electric variants across seven models.
i4 eDrive35 iX3 M Sport iX1 eDrive20
The BMW Group currently anticipates by the end of 2024 at least one in five of the company’s new vehicles will have an all-electric powertrain.
In 2025, it expects this number to rise to one in four, and in 2026, one in three.
By the end of 2025 the BMW Group aims to have more than two million EVs on the road.

Powertrains
The BMW iX2 eDrive20 is powered by a single, front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW of power and 247Nm of torque.
The iX2 xDrive30 uses a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with system outputs of 230kW and 494Nm. BMW claims the iX2 xDrive30 can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds.
Both variants are fed by a 67kWh battery pack.
Efficiency
BMW claims the iX2 eDrive20 has an electric range of up to 477km according to WLTP testing.
The iX2 xDrive30 on the other hand has an electric range of up to 449km according to WLTP testing.
Both variants can be DC fast-charged at up to 130kW, which is claimed to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. They can also be AC charged at up to 22kW.
The iX2 xDrive30 comes with a flexible fast charger for home charging, a Mode 3 charging cable, as well as a 12-month Chargefox subscription.
BMW will detailed a “full charging solution package” for the iX2 eDrive20 closer to its local launch.
Dimensions
The BMW iX2 measures in at 4554mm long, 1845mm wide, and 1590mm tall.
BMW hasn’t detailed boot capacities for the iX2 at this stage.
Servicing and Warranty
BMW Australia covers its line-up with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty.
The iX2 also has a eight-year or 160,000km warranty for its high-voltage battery.
Service pricing for the iX2 hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Safety
The new-generation BMW X2 or iX2 hasn’t been crash-tested by ANCAP or Euro NCAP yet.
BMW X1 crash test
For reference, petrol-powered versions of the related BMW X1 are covered by a 2022-stamped five-star ANCAP and Euro NCAP rating.
This rating is based on category scores of 86 per cent for adult occupant protection, 88 per cent for child occupant protection, 76 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 94 per cent for safety assist.
BMW Australia hasn’t detailed the standard safety equipment for the iX2 eDrive20 as yet, though the iX2 xDrive30 comes with the following:
