The built-to-order carbon roof from an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has allegedly flown off while its driver was travelling on a United States highway.
According to the Alfa Romeo USA website the carbon fibre roof is a US$2500 option available on the Giulia Quadrifoglio and 100th Anniversary models.
According to a post shared on the Life of a Car Dealership Facebook group by Morgan Elizabeth Sage, the customer allegedly took his Giulia to a dealership to note the incident.
“So customer brings in an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quad… there’s no roof,” said Ms Sage.
“The paint matched 100 per cent carbon fibre roof just said bye-bye on the highway.”
“$22k before paint. How’s your Monday going for far?”.
According to Ms Sage, the customer was “holding it together remarkably well”.
After trawling the internet and various other Facebook pages this doesn’t seem to be a regular occurrence, making the event even more bizarre.
The images posted by Ms Sage show the bare roof of the sedan with wiring and some form of moulded material within the roof cavity.
Another image posted, shows the roof with several scratches on it especially around the edges, which could have been where the most impact from the incident occurred.
Based on the post Ms Sage claims the damage is “$22k before paint”, as the roof was a colour-coded carbon-fibre addition. This gives a whole new meaning to putting the roof down on a sunny day.
