Ford has released an image teasing the upcoming Mustang GT4 race car, showing part of the headlight and front bumper treatments.

The brand says it will debut its Mustang track special on June 28 at the 24 Hours of Spa endurance race – held at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Joining the Mustang GT4 at Spa will be Ford Performance global motorsports director, Mark Rushbrook, alongside SRO President, Stephane Ratel.

For the upcoming racer, Ford has adopted a series of black accents under the headlights, air intakes and diffuser to contrast its orange body colour and red rectangular textured artwork throughout the livery.

Ford has confirmed the GT4 will be based on the seventh-generation Mustang Dark Horse, which has a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine tuned to deliver 373kW — that’s 500 horses even — and 567Nm to the rear wheels.

Ford Performance has co-developed the Mustang GT4 with Multimatic Motorsports, which will build the car for customers globally.

Going by the preview image, it’s expected Ford will make some changes to the suspension and aerodynamics to make the Mustang Dark Horse ready for GT4-class motorsport.

The previous Mustang GT4 proved popular for the Blue Oval’s performance division, competing championships around the world in the hands of professional racing drivers and private customers.

The track-honed Mustang will go head-to-head with competitors from the likes of BMW, Mercedes-AMG, McLaren, Porsche and Audi in the FFSA GT4 category.

The new Mustang GT4 will debut during the 2023 season and will be available for global GT4 classes in IMSA, SRO and FIA GT series.

Ford recently debuted the Mustang GT3, which featured a bespoke “short-arm” suspension under the skin, along with an aggressive aerodynamics package that can be adapted for wherever in the world a team is racing.

The GT3 also debuted with the Ford Performance logo for the first time.
