CEO Elon Musk says he is confident Tesla will be “in India as soon as humanly possible”, suggesting a new Gigafactory may be on the cards for the company.

In a conversation with local press Mr Musk confirmed he will be visiting India next year.

“We don’t want to jump the gun on an announcement, but I think it’s quite likely we there will be significant investment and relationship with India in the future”, Mr Musk told reporters.

“India has more promise than any other large country in the world,” Mr Musk additionally told reporters from news outlet ANI.

“[PM Modi] really cares about India as he’s pushing us to make significant investments in India, which is something we intend to do and we are trying to figure out the right timing,” he said.

“It was a fantastic meeting and I like him quite a lot.

“There is tremendous amount of potential for all three pillars of the sustainable energy future [in India], the three pillars being: sustainable energy generation through solar and wind primarily, stationary battery packs and electric vehicles.

“We are also looking at installing Starlink internet to India, which I think can be incredibly helpful for remote or rural villages.”
