Tesla has started offering service centre-installed body wraps on its top-selling Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles (EVs) at certain locations in the US.

Wrapping Teslas, or any vehicle in fact, has become a common practice as owners want to personalise their vehicle in a paint colour that isn’t offered from the factory. It’s also typically a cost-effective and reversible way to change the colour of your car.

Tesla is currently offering the Model 3 and Model Y in the US in seven “exclusive” coloured wraps that are made from a self-healing urethane-based film that’s claimed to protect the paint from chips, scratches and swirling.

These wraps are priced from US$7500 to US$8000 (~A$11,700 to ~A$12,500), depending on the colour, and these prices include the cost of materials and installation.

The coloured wraps on offer are as follows:

  • Glacier Blue
  • Forest Green
  • Satin Rose Gold
  • Slip Grey
  • Satin Ceramic White
  • Satin Stealth Black
  • Crimson Red

In addition to the coloured wraps there’s also a clear wrap available on the Model 3 and Model Y that’s priced from US$5000 (~A$7800).

For now it’s unclear if Tesla plans to only offer this service centre-installed vehicle wrapping in the US, or if it will offer it in other markets such as Australia.

It’s also unclear if Tesla plans to increase the number of vehicles that can be wrapped. These vehicles include the Model S, Model X, and forthcoming Cybertruck.

The latter of these vehicles has only been shown off in a raw stainless steel finish to date.
