Volkswagen is recalling its new-generation Amarok due to an issue with the rear driveshaft.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear driveshaft bolts may not have been sufficiently tightened during production and could become loose and detach,” the company says in its recall notice.

“If this occurs, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power.

“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

This recall notice is separate to one issued on November 13, which centred on a manufacturing defect with the front driveshaft that could also result in a sudden loss of power. This affected 70 vehicles.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact a Volkswagen dealership to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Volkswagen Group Australia on 1800 504 076.
