Lexus Australia has already blown past its strongest ever sales year – and there’s still has four months left in 2023.

A massive August (1685 sales) propelled the brand to 9985 sales year-to-date on the VFACTS sales charts, meaning 2023 is already the biggest ever year for Lexus in Australia, ahead of 2019 (9612 sales).

The brand has confirmed that – although it hasn’t been reflected in the sales figures just yet – it delivered its 10,000th car for 2023 on September 1.

A Lexus Australia spokesperson told CarExpert the sales come on the back of stronger supply from head office, which is allowing the brand to fulfil its significant book of back orders.

The best-seller for now is the NX SUV. To date this year Lexus has delivered 4291 examples, putting it behind only the Tesla Model Y on the sales charts.

Although the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid is not available to order, and waits persist on the NX 350h hybrid, the base NX 250 petrol is in stock at dealers. Lexus says stock of the hybrid is improving.

The second-best selling Lexus is the larger (also new) RX SUV, with 1892 deliveries.

More broadly, Lexus says 57 per cent of the cars it’s delivered to date in 2023 have been hybrids or electric – up from 47 per cent at the same point in 2022. In August this year, a whopping 71 per cent of its deliveries were electrified.

Supply pending, signs point to 2024 being even bigger.

The new Yaris Cross-based LBX SUV has been confirmed for Australia, promising to lower the entry price to the Lexus range, while at the top end the new LM people mover will touch down late in 2023.

The tough new Lexus GX SUV is also due Down Under in the first half of 2024.
